AISD Cloud Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AISD Smart Cloud Computing?
The AISD Smart Cloud Computing

The AISD Smart Cloud Computing environment provides online access for applications, file storage, network files, learning and teaching resources with 100's of AISD vetted sources, educational apps store with hundreds of education apps categorized by grade and subject, collaboration tools, web 2.0 tools, online professional development, online training video library, video conferencing, electronic text books, email, access my PC, and access my Lab via the web from anywhere, anytime via any device. Although not all small devices can optimally utilize these services due to screen limitations, the environment is accessible via the internet through Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome browsers with any device and operating system that supports these browsers. Therefore, it is device and operating system agnostic allowing a variety of devices and handheld smart phones to access this environment. Through the cloud staff and students can have anywhere access to applications and files typically were only available for them in the classroom and within our network. This will allow the learning and teaching environment to be mobile following the kids and teachers rather than the other way around. It also makes for a very cost effective support model allowing for centralized support of the environment rather than supporting every desktop. It establishes a learning platform with an application portfolio for our principals, teachers and students that is consistent, equitable, supportable, and aligns with an effective professional development process.

The cloud will provide close integration to external free online resources such as Google Docs and Microsoft Live@Edu for content creation and collaboration. It provides free email access to 6-12 students via Gmail and additional free storage capacity for content storage for each student. This will significantly reduce the operational cost for the district by eliminating the need to purchase new applications, additional storage, complex back up systems and costly annual maintenance for these systems. It will provide single sign on to authorized applications so teachers, students and staff do not have to login more than ones to access needed resources and applications. Features such as the Application Dashboard allow the user to organize favorite applications in one screen for easy access to data in multiple systems on one screen. Performance management systems such myReporting, myAnalytics and myDashboard will be in one screen and side by side for comparative analysis.

The cloud provides relevant resources based on the user profile. Resources are tagged by job role, grade level, subject and level of difficulty and are cross referenced to a user profile to allow relevant resources to be presented to the user. Hundreds of core applications and online resources that will be organized in an easy to follow categories can be accessed via the environment when all completed making it one stop shop for application and data access for all users including our students.

Students use a default formula based password and we have determined that to be a security risk when used outside the district. Once they have done this they will be able to access the AISD Cloud from home.

I get this prompt when I login to the cloud with IE (Internet Explorer): "Do you want to display the nonsecure items?"
If you are getting this prompt with IE, it is because IE is displaying mixed of secured and non secured content in one site. This is because most sites do not secure non sensitive items and secure others that is sensitive which produces a mixed site. Most browsers do not prompt for this and display the mixed site, but IE prompts the user. Here is the prompt:
Image 9
To disable this prompt and allow mixed content as a default follow these steps (also see screenshots below for visual guide):

  1. In Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab, and then click the Custom Level button.
  3. In the Security Settings dialog box, scroll to the Display mixed content setting in the Miscellaneous section, and then click Enable.
  4. Click OK in the Security Settings dialog box, and then click OK to exit Internet Options.
